Eventology 2011

Although I graduated from OSU, starting a business especially in this industry there are just some things you do not learn. Therefore education has been key. Last year it was Ivy Robinson, this year Eventology! i I had such a good time meeting some lovely ladies and learning from some of the best in the industry. Here is a little recap from my trip....Enjoy!

Day 1:
I was a little nervous walking into the Omni Hotel knowing I wasn't going to know anyone but I quickly meet some fabulous girls. During registration we got a swag bag, and who doesn't like that?!

Our table setting was so cute!

Up first was Jeannine Kennedy who spoke about Style (my favorite topic always). Her website the stylish planner is so great. I am grateful to say that I was featured just last month                         .

After a great lunch with the ladies at Nordstroms we came back to hear Ali Phillips talk about maximizing vendor relationships. I learned a lot from her presentation and maybe a little more sitting next to her : )

Someone you cannot forget once you meet her is the self proclaimed Diva herself Linnyette Richardson-Hall you may know what I am talking about if you watch her on Whose Wedding Is It Anyways? She spoke on confidence and I was definitely taking notes.

To end the evening we had Becca Brett Leish from Get Married magazine spoke about Getting Published! I will be submitting so let's keep our fingers crossed.

By 7:30 this pregnant mama was hungry! the cocktail (well juice for me) and dinner party was much needed. As much as I would have loved to hit the downtown Indianapolis fun I was wiped out from the day.

Day 2:
My brain hurt after Michelle Loretta spoke on accounting. She did a fabulous job don't get me wrong but  I was in such need of this lesson it was difficult on the brain.

LawGLOSS (yeah I know fun name) NaShara Mitchell, JD who can I say is so cute! Spoke on Contracts and Agreements. Not only does she know law but does make-up! Not fair she gets brains and beauty.

Last but certainly not least was Saundra Hadley with negotiation skills. I really enjoyed meeting her at the conference, she had me laughing a lot.  One thing I learned about her is her obsession with chucks and I owe her a chuck edition of Shoes Day Tuesday so look for it on the blog shortly.

A special thanks to all the ladies and especially to Katasha Butler for a successful event!

The cake that rocked my world

I've never been one to post many food items or recipes on the blog but today is a new beginning. After attending a party a few months ago I was introduced to the best tasting cake that will ever touch your lips. If my word isn't enough, the actually name of the cake is...better than sex cake. I swear, I am not lying, that is the real name! Now I am not going to make too many comments on the name of the cake because this is my business blog but I will say that while people were eating it there were a lot of comparable noises to doing the deed (lol) Being pregnant, of course, I was given the leftovers. I shared it with Kinsey, my mom, and sibilings. Not only were their noises again but everyone agreed it was the best cake they had ever had. I felt like it would be wrong to not share this delish with all of you...
Enjoy loves xo

Ingredients
  • 1 (18.25 ounce) package devil's food cake mix
  • 1/2 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 6 ounces caramel ice cream topping
  • 3 (1.4 ounce) bars chocolate covered toffee, chopped
  • 1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed

Directions

  1. Bake cake according to package directions for a 9x13 inch pan; cool on wire rack for 5 minutes. Make slits across the top of the cake, making sure not to go through to the bottom.
  2. In a saucepan over low heat, combine sweetened condensed milk and caramel topping, stirring until smooth and blended. Slowly pour the warm topping mixture over the top of the warm cake, letting it sink into the slits; then sprinkle the crushed chocolate toffee bars liberally across the entire cake while still warm. (Hint: I crush my candy bars into small chunks as opposed to crumbs - I like to have pieces I can chew on!)
  3. Let cake cool completely, then top with whipped topping. Decorate the top of the cake with some more chocolate toffee bar chunks and swirls of caramel topping. Refrigerate and serve right from the pan!

If you choose to indulge in this amazingness please let me know what you think and maybe bring me a piece?! : )

Remembering 9/11

I am not a very good writer and when my emotions are involved I tend to even be worse, therefore, I was torn on whether to do this post for today. I wasn't torn based on people judging my writing but on whether I would be capable of expressing my thoughts on today. With that said I will do my best...

Words cannot describe the devastation that September 11th 2001 brought to so many people and particularly families. Any time I see a photo or clip of that horrible day my heart aches. I was in Math class when the planes hit and 24 hours later I was in the heart of it. My experience of that horrible day is nothing compared to those who lost loved ones but it affected me in a way I will never forget. My dad and I jumped in the car hours after the attack and headed to New York, we wanted to help in any way that we could. My dad was able to get into ground zero before they cut off civilians from entering, he helped search for the missing. Meanwhile I helped in one of the set-up camps. We had cots, helped serve food, and gave minor medical help to the firefighters and others helping with the search. The destruction, smoke, and people will forever be etched into my memory. The one story I wanted to share was one that I think about often... a man was brought into the set-up area by a few other men and I was told he needed to rest and eat. I learned while I was helping him that he had been searching through the rubble for over two days straight. I was looking at a man who was about to collapse but yet was determined to go back out there. I quickly said to him, you need to go home, take a shower, take a nap, see your family, and then you can come back. His response to me was no! Using common sense I made the comment "you will be more of a help when you have some strength back" and his response to me is one that I will never forget. He said "what kind of husband would I be if I go home and tell my wife that I couldn't find her dad" At that moment I just stood there, these weren't all people just wanting to help, these were people searching for friends, co-workers, and family members. I obviously knew that before but hearing it said this way was different. I think about that man often and wonder about his families outcome. I can't imagine the pain that not only this day brings but everyday to those who lost a loved one  on that horrible day. I pray for comfort and peace to those still suffering and along with the rest of the country I take today to remember.

It seems the one thing that all brides tend to stress about is the dreaded bridesmaid dress. They are either worried about the price, finding a style that everyone will look good in, or something they think their bm will wear again. I've yet to see it but the styles are getting better every year. Here are a few of my favorites if your still looking...

I love the colors of these

Happy One Year Anniversary to Kelly and Patrick!!

Last Labor Day weekend I had the pleasure of planning a wedding for the cutest couple in an adorable little town. After going home for the holidays, Kelly decided she wanted to have her wedding in her home town of Coshocton. I had never been to Coshocton but I quickly feel in love with their Roscoe Village. Kinsey and I ended up staying up there after the wedding and camping. If your looking for something to do for an afternoon or have an extra day, it's worth a visit.

Kelly and Patrick were such a sweet couple to work with and I am so happy to be featuring them again on their one year anniversary. To many many more you two!!!

Here are a some of favorite pictures and highlights....

We had beautiful weather for the day
(although the wind could have been nicer to us but I'm not complaining look at the sky)

Seriously, could I have asked for a cuter couple? I think not.

Loved the custom hanger we got the bride as a gift.

Kelly and Patrick are both dentists and choose to donate to the Free to Smile Foundation.
The gorgeous flowers were done by Sherri at www.BellaBouquets.com

I have to apologize because I am actually one day late on this post.
Being 9 months pregnant, I like to blame everything on my pregnancy brain : )

Cake Opera Co.

As a planner I am always on the computer and now with Pinterest it has been taken to a whole other level. As I was looking through inspiration I came across a cake, after doing a little research I found that the cake was done in Ontario by a shop called The Cake Opera Co. After a little more searching I came across these photos of their shop and cake. I could only think of one question to ask.....who wants to go to Canada with me? I will pass on any museums and go to a shop like this to look at these amazing pieces of art. The details, uniqueness, and displays are unreal!!

Their website is no less then unique as well http://www.cakeoperaco.com/

Enjoy the art my friends....

Pinterest

I feel as though I am so busy all the time and being 34 weeks pregnant doesn't leave me with a lot of energy. When I do finally have a spurt you would think I would want to get to my to-do list, work on the nursery, go to the grocery, or finish with my obsessive nesting stage but NOOO I'm in front of the computer sucked into Pinterest. I am sure 99% of you know of the site, if not let me explain.... Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their wedding, decorate their homes. and organize their favorite recipes. You can make a pinboard about anything you little heart desires. If you love inspiration I suggest you get on board asap.

If you would like to follow the boards of yours truly, follow me at http://pinterest.com/mmj_events/

To give you a little teaser, here are some of my pins.

This is what I want my office to look like

To belt or not to belt?

If your wedding dress doesn't make you feel like a million dress, you need to keep looking. There are many styles and trends to choose from and worth the hunt. One of my favorite trends has been the belt or sash. There are so many different styles and it is another way to make your dress your own. I fell in love with a belt before I even found my dress. Some belts are permanently made into the dress while others are removable. Mine was removable, I did not add it until the reception which really changed the feel of my dress and I loved it! We have a feeling this trend is going to stick around for awhile. Even if you feel like it's not you, give it a try when your trying on dresses, it won't hurt and you might surprise yourself.
Here are a few of my favs.

 Oscar de la Renta
The one on the left is gorg

Judd Waddell
A way to make a small waist look even smaller and who doesn't want that!

If you aren't into the crystals or beading, you can always try a satin sash as well.

Lovely Lady Bump

I wish I was one of those people who journaled or at least blogged through out their pregnancy, however, I am just not that on top of things. I do have 2 pages out of 6 done for his scrapbook...progress people progress.
In one post I will try and sum up the last 32 weeks....

1st Trimester: The first trimester was just like what you would expect I was tired, sick, and hormonal. Someone needs to come out with a new book on pregnancy symptoms because there are soooo many more then what you hear about. If you are expecting or are planning on having a baby soon I suggest reading the book Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy, she speaks the truth and it is hilarious! I had a little trouble gaining weight in the beginning but luckily that is now a problem of the past : )

2nd Trimester: It is true, the second trimester is a nice break. My symptoms subsided a lot and I was able to enjoy the pregnancy. People ask me about my cravings all the time and to be honest I haven't had anything crazy. If anything I felt like I reverted back to 5th grade and wanted things like tater tots, fig newtons, and the biggest of them all ICEE (yum) you know the one you use to get at the movie theater with the bear one it. Luckily they now sell them at burger king, just writing about it is making me want to go get one and it's only 9:30am.

3rd Trimester: If I had a nickel for every time I said I was tired, I would definitely be on the Forbes list this year. I still have 8 weeks to go in this trimester and already I'm not a happy momma. I had a bad back prior to pregnancy but the amount of pain in my back is some of the worst physical pain I've ever experienced. You know you are desperate for some relief when you are laughing on a heating pad when the heat index is over 100 degrees. I want my little peanut to stay in there and continue to grow until it is safe for him to come out but the second that it is I want him out!!!

Randoms: It makes me laugh how many strangers want to know about your pregnancy. Everywhere I go people want to know how far along, boy or girl, names. I just wouldn't expect the post office man to care that much haha.
Pregnancy brain!! ugh this IS real and in my case ridiculous. Just a few of my golden moments: putting the scissors in the freezer, calling the gas company about the electric, ordering my food, paying for my food, and then leaving without my food. People keep saying it gets worse after baby but that can't be possible for me, I need my brain back.
I know have a new formed respect for people who carry multiples like my mom who had twins and is extremely petite. I saw a couple on tv who were having 5 and it made me want to cry for her. The second respect level is for single moms. I can't imagine going through this alone. Kinsey has been so supportive from the beginning when I was scared and unready, he gives me massages every night, does the late night runs to B.K for my icee. I know there are many support groups for single moms  to get help when the baby comes but there should be some starting at pregnancy.
Knowing what a blessing from God this baby is keeps me going everyday. I cannot wait to meet my little man!!

Thanks to all my friends and family for all their prayers.
Love u xo
